George W. Bush - Articles of Impeachment

Yesterday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich presented to the House Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush. The articles, totaling 35, were presented largely uninterrupted. You can watch the beginning of his address here (with plenty of other videos to choose from at the end of it):

The question that I wish to pose is the following: Is it too little too late?

I would argue that justice is justice, no matter when served. This sends a positive message to both the people of the United States of America and the citizens of the world that we wish to enact change. We are ready for change. Furthermore, impeachment of the President would prevent him from enacting any kind of scenario wherein he could impose martial law and procure and indefinite termination of his stay in office, in violation of the two consecutive terms limit to the office of the Presidency.

On the other hand, one might argue that this is nothing more than a charade, and political theater. Being so close to Bush's departure from office, it will not truly hasten the process of regime change, but rather is a half-hearted attempt at appeasing and pandering to the masses who feel long-overdue for this kind of action.

What do you think? I am curious to hear how other people feel about this.

Win Butler <3 Barack Obama

I agree with Win, of Arcade Fire, on every word. And not just because I like his music. This is, In My Opinion, our last chance to elect someone sane before we do so much damage to our country and the world that it takes the rest of our lives (time that we just plain don't have) to get them back.

Open Congress

Wanna know what your Senator is doing? Interested in what the person who might become the next President is doing now?

Not literally, of course. You don't really want to know if they're pooping. But you do want to know the kinds of decisions they're making. Don't you?

Now there's an easy way to do it. Check out http://www.opencongress.org

Culmination

For a long time now, I have sought to keep myself informed of the betrayals of the government, the ways in which our government seeks to control us, manipulate us, and dictate an immoral and unconstitutional agenda both at home and abroad. I've done my best to rant and rave, as well as point out some kind of substantial evidence to you to support these beliefs.

The time when these things will all be proven is far in our future, most likely at a time just before or during an era that mimics our own. And proof is a worthless pursuit anyway, because truth is its necessity. Truth, as we all know, is dependent on one's perspective. And there will never be a full consensus on anything so long as we live.

That being said, I beg and plead for you to watch the following documentary. It is available online. It is free to you, thanks to Google, thanks to the internet, thanks to people like you. This movie is the culmination of all of the things I've said to you regarding our government. I have had it with the United States, with politics, with those in power. Only through evolution can we save ourselves.

WATCH ZEITGEIST. And tell every single person you know to do the same.

The CONS of life

There comes a time in every man's life, well, actually many times, where he must look at the world through eyes of the clearest glass, the widest scope, and the deepest field. I strive to do this as often as possible, often giving the benefit of the doubt to the underdog. I cannot do this with white Christian conservatives any longer.

If you are a Neo-Con, self-proclaimed, the deeper into this sect of American fictional lifestyle you delve, the fewer times in your life you will have the aforementioned moments of clarity that I have described. If you hit the bottom of that barrel, it is likely that that moment will come for you only once, and that will be either just before or just after you die.

I invite you to read this article on AlterNet entitled, "Neocons on a Cruise: What Concervatives Say When They Think We Aren't Listening." I hope you will find it awe-inspiring, mind-altering, eye-opening, and above all, a huge reason to never talk to another Neocon again, your final words to any such friends being, "You need serious help."

SiCKO

I just saw Michael Moore's "SiCKO."

I don't really know what to say, so I'll tell you what I told my parents: If you do nothing else this week, see it.

It will open your eyes to a number of things, and remind you of some old ones in new light, that are important to us as people and as a country that is really behind the bandwagon.

Rallies and frustration

So, I went downtown today to check out the anti-war demonstration (oh, Jens Lekman, I love you), and I have to say it wasn't all that exciting. I found it interesting that, from what I heard, the most interesting and engaging speeches came from those who were or had once been politicians of some kind... a congressman in particular spoke and was very rousing.

While the congressman was speaking, I had the intense urge to yell, "Why don't you do something instead of just talking about it?" Or something to that effect. I mean, it's dude's job to get shit done! In My Opinion, it was not enough that he was here outside talking to the crowd on a cold day... it's a nice gesture, but it made me doubt his sincerity... I feel as though if he really feels so strongly about getting us out of Iraq and getting Bush out of office, he was the person of all those few hundred people who actually had a shot at getting anything done about it. But instead, he was rabble-rousing at an ineffectual rally.

In My Opinion, it was kind of bullshit.

Paperless Voting

We've certainly seen in the past that paperless voting is a worthless system... the government is rife with scandal and impropriety and the voting machines designed by those within their economic control... the machines are easy to hack, as proven by people at PRINCETON. It took them almost no time at all. The problem that we will continue to see with anything computer-based is that between malicious programmers/hackers, the government, and the everyday user is a constant struggle.

Granted, when it comes to the field of politics, there is a consistent battle being waged in which there are some whose immorality forces them to consult deplorable means of achieving their ends. However, the use of paperless voting machines is an absurdly simple means of doing so. The corners are cut too easily, the voters too easily frauded, too easily unsatisfied with the results that follow.

BAN PAPERLESS VOTING.

What do I doodoo?

Luke brought up a great point... "Is there anyone doing anything about the internet stuff you e-mailed me about? What should I do?"

Well Luke, I'm glad you asked that. It's a hard thing to do. Often times, if you're like me, you feel a sense of helplessness when someone tells you about something infuriating, frustrating, or just downright deplorable in the government. We want to do something about it, but what to do?????

Well, my immediate response to Luke was to call or e-mail his congressmen, his representatives in the government, to voice his opinion. He said, well, nobody does that. And I said, I do.

There are places such as MoveOn.org that will hook you up with your congressmen. Ultimately, it's not very hard for you to find the e-mail addresses and phone numbers for your congressmen.

And of course, we forget the power of protest! There are so many ways to protest... standing outside with a sign, refusing to buy things, hunger strike... We have more power than we realize because we've become somewhat placid, like cattle. We have all of the things we want to be happy in our lives (food, clothes, homes, even cars), so when something in the government, which is not so immediately a part of our lives, goes awry, we feel too distant to do anything about it.

Never forget... Power ultimately lies in the public, not in the individual hands of the few politicians. They have lots of decisionmaking power, but we are the people. We have given them their power, and we are the ones to whom they are responsible. If everyone in America packed up and left, even George W. Bush would find his position to be completely void of meaning and power. If you're not happy about something, tell other people. Maybe they'll be unhappy about it too, and you can both do something about it.
